MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 24

Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Our Thursday matinee NRFI brings us a pitching matchup I have no problem trusting. Kicking off the top of the first will be Garrett Crochet. He’s been everything the Red Sox wanted since trading for him this offseason. He holds a 1.13 ERA and has fanned 35 batters in just 32.0 innings. I’d trust him to get an NRFI started against just about anyone right now. He may be tested in this one with the Mariners sneaking into the top ten of runs scored. However, they are still a below league average team when it comes to scoring in the first, which should help out Crochet here.

Bryan Woo hasn’t been quite as good as Crochet, but he’s been touch to score on as well. He holds a solid 3.13 ERA at this stage of the season. He does a great job of throwing to contact and getting batters to get themselves out. The Red Sox haven’t been a homer heavy team this year. They average just 1.0 home runs per game. As a result, the throwing to contact should work well and Woo should make it out of the first for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 24: No (-130)

Texas Rangers vs. Athletics

First Pitch – 10:05 pm EST
Sutter Health Park – Sacramento, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the nightcap, I like the NRFI as well. Newcomer J.T. Ginn gets the ball for the Athletics in their makeshift home stadium. He’s been really sharp in his two outings this season. The Mississippi State product has allowed just four runs over 10.0 innings in his stints this year – all while striking out 13 batters. That equates to a 3.60 ERA and should be plenty to quiet this Rangers squad for at least three outs. In fact, he’s gotten through at least six outs in all of his outings before giving up a run, so let’s count on him here.

Standing across from Ginn is a man with a touch more experience. Jacob deGrom gets the ball for the Rangers and he’s coming off one of the best outings he’s had in some time. He faced a touch Dodgers lineup and held them to just one run over 7.0 innings. His stuff played up as well as he struck out seven batters and walked just one. This Athletics team has been hitting the ball well, but I’d trust that version of deGrom to keep them off the board early.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 24: No (-125)
