No UFC, no problem, as the “regional” MMA scene (aka the non-UFC scene) is alive and well this week, with lots of big-time events and opportunities to win some money. One such event goes down on Friday afternoon/evening. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: PFL First Round 3, we’re taking the dog in Friday’s main event. Let’s get it on, c’mon!

MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: PFL First Round 3
2025 PFL First Round: Middleweights & Lightweights
Main Card Start Time: 7:00 PM EST (ESPN/ESPN+)
The PFL’s main event on Friday is one of their opening-round middleweight tournament fights, pitting their 2023 Light Heavyweight Champion Impa Kasanganay up against former Bellator title challenger Fabian Edwards. And the Brit – Edwards – is my pick to advance to the semifinals.
Kasanganay is probably best suited to the 205-pound weight class, so he may be depleting himself to get down to 185. Besides that, Edwards should be the much better fighter on the feet, where he has a five-inch reach advantage. Plus, Kasanganay probably isn’t a strong enough wrestler to cause Edwards too much trouble, which is typically the only type of fighter who beats the Brit.
