College Basketball Picks January 6
Wichita State -8.5 vs. USF
Wichita State has put together an up-and-down campaign so far in 2024-2025. They started off the season blazing hot but have since cooled off. They are led by senior guards Justin Hill and Xavier Bell, averaging 14 points per game each.
The Shockers are 0-1 in the AAC and play their second conference game tonight against USF. South Florida has not impressed me at all this season. Not only do the Bulls have a negative net rating, but they are also a putrid 4-9 against the spread. USF’s defense has been weak, especially late in games, and its shooting efficiency is among the worst in the country.
This does not bode well against a formidable opponent in Wichita State.
Rutgers +1.5 vs. Wisconsin
This Rutgers squad has made headlines for their freshman NBA-level talent, Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper, yet the team has fallen short of expectations thus far. Steve Pikiell teams are typically known for their defense, but this Scarlet Knights squad hasn’t been able to figure it out on the defensive side of the ball.
Historically, Rutgers under Pikiell has been dominant at Jersey Mike’s Arena. However, they are underdogs to a solid Wisconsin team in this spot. I think they can get the job done with a healthy Dylan Harper back in the lineup.
