NBA First Scorer Props – December 13
Washington Wizards vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse – Cleveland, OH

The lead here in the early game action is so obviously in the favor or Cleveland. The Wizards are in the bottom third of the league in terms of tip percentage with just 45.5%. Meanwhile, Cleveland leads in the NBA in getting that first possession at 84.0%. With the tip winner getting 64.8% of the first buckets, this discrepancy should already be enough. However, if you’re still on the fence, consider that the Cavaliers have a 27.7% lead in first bucket rate as well over the Wizards. You can’t overlook all this data and as a result, we’ll grab someone from the Cavaliers.
Only one player has shown up in the play log under the first three shots for the Cavaliers in each of the last three games. It’s not superstar Donovan Mitchell, who believe it or not appears in none of the early game logs for any of those games. Instead it’s Darius Garland, who we see at far deeper odds on the board. Washington is also a bottom five team in terms of what percentage of points they give up on three-pointers, which helps open the door even more here for Garland.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – NBA TV
The numbers coming out of Charlotte may not exactly inspire you to run to the ticket window. They’ve won just 45.8% of their tips and have matched that number in terms of first buckets. However, the lead that gives them over the Bulls is inspiring. The Bulls have won just two of their 24 tipoffs this year. That comes out to 8.3% on the year. They have twice as many first buckets, but that brings them up to just four total and a 16.7% average. Both of these statistics are obviously dead last in the NBA. With the Bulls being an auto-fade at this point, you have to go with Charlotte here.
He might be the odds on favorite on the post, but the obvious pick here has to be Brandon Miller. The Hornets have spread their action out on the first bucket, with seven total players featuring and only three of them having more than one. Miller is one of those repeat offenders and he just so happens to have taken their first shot in back-to-back games. If we assume he’s getting that first look against the Bulls, we get five-to-one odds on him making it.
