NBA First Scorer Props – December 6
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Atlanta Hawks
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
State Farm Arena – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – NBA TV
In both of the important early game metrics – the tip win percentage and first scorer rate – the Hawks rank in the top third of the league. They are 8th in the league at winning tips and 7th in the league in terms of converting them. That’d put them in a good position against just about any team, but particularly against the Lakers. The Lakers are amongst the worst in the league at those metrics – ranking particularly bad at scoring first, where they’re 27th. With that wide gap, it’s easy to head to Atlanta for a pick here.
If you look at the early game action for the Hawks, both Dyson Daniels and Zaccharie Risacher have been getting an inordinate amount of looks. When it comes down to it, either of these two would be value plays for Friday’s action. My gut tells me that the volume of Dyson Daniels being just a bit better could be a difference maker. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a bit more accurate of a shooter and is far more likely to take the ball to the lane and score from there too.
First Scorer Bet for December 6: Dyson Daniels (+950)
Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls
Tipoff – 8:00 pm EST
United Center – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – NBA TV
The Bulls lucked out on Thursday and got both a tip and a first bucket. It was just their second tip win and fourth first bucket of the year – thanks mostly to the fact that the Spurs sent out a small forward in Jeremy Sochan to take the jump. Despite that, the Bulls remain 30th in the NBA in both categories and likely won’t get that much help again from the Pacers. The Pacers are above average on the tip with a healthy Myles Turner heading out for it. They’re also right around league average on scoring the first buckets.
Andrew Nembhard may have missed the last Pacers game due to a knee injury, but he was on quite a roll prior as far as early action is concerned. He had the team’s first shot in the last game he played and took one of the first two in the game prior. He had missed a stretch before that, but even if you want to go back to his early November games, they were getting him the rock early. Let’s hope as he comes back that comes right back into focus.
First Scorer Bet for December 6: Andrew Nembhard (+650)
