England vs. Switzerland – Either Team to Win by Penalties (+380) FanDuel

Date: Saturday, July 6
Time: 12:00 PM ET
Network: FOX

As someone who has backed England until now, I finally have to admit that I can’t do it anymore. I was the last one on the bandwagon for the previous game, but I am no longer betting on the Three Lions with my money.

Gareth Southgate has already seen his team draw the last three games after 90 minutes. Meanwhile, none of those nations are as good as this Swiss squad.

What has England shown you offensively that scares you in this matchup? For the tournament, Southgate’s team is averaging just 0.838 expected goals in regulation, according to fbref.com.

However, the English defense is still very stout. So, I’m not expecting Switzerland to have much success offensively, either.

You could go more conservatively with the draw, but I just feel this will be a stalemate that ultimately ends in penalty kicks.

France vs Portugal

Date: Friday, July 5
Time: 3:00 PM ET
Network: FOX

Although I am staying away from England, I am still sticking with France to avoid defeat as a parlay piece. In fact, this French squad has not lost in regulation in the knockout rounds of a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup.

Yes, I understand that the only goals for Didier Deschamps’ team have come from a pair of own goals and a penalty. However, Les Bleus are due some luck in front of the goal.

In this competition, France has only scored three times from 6.8 xG. Meanwhile, the defense has given up the fewest expected goals in the tournament and has only given up one goal.

It is the defensive performance that makes this a great parlay piece here, especially against a team relying on an aging Cristiano Ronaldo to score.

If Portugal couldn’t beat Slovenia in 90 minutes, I like my chances for France to also avoid defeat in regular time.

Netherlands vs Turkey

Date: Saturday, July 6
Time: 3:00 PM ET
Network: FOX

If you read my Round of 16 preview, you know I cashed a winning ticket by taking the over in the Turkey match. The Turkish defense was a major reason for the bet, and I am going against that unit again here.

Through four games, Turkey has failed to keep a clean sheet, allowing an average of 1.9 xG and 4.25 big-scoring chances per match.

This is the same defense that gave up three goals to Portugal before allowing 2.7 expected goals to Austria, which should bode well for one of the best attacks in the tournament.

The Netherlands have scored at least multiple goals in all but one game. In fact, the Dutch have found the back of the net at least two times in 12 of its last 17 matches.

Only Spain and the Portuguese have created more non-penalty expected goals than the Oranje, and I like the Dutch to capitalize on more chances in this one.

Cody Gakpo – Top Goalscorer (+450) DraftKings

In correlation with my Netherlands parlay piece, I like the price on Cody Gakpo to finish as the top goalscorer of the tournament. He has scored in three of four games, and he should have plenty of opportunities against the Turkish defense.

The only other player still playing in the competition who also matches Gakpo’s three goals is Germany’s Jamal Musiala. However, the Germans have a much tougher opponent in this round in Spain.

With the Dutch listed as the heavy favorite, I expect Gakpo to at least have two more games remaining to add to his tally.

Another plus is I am expecting him to be on penalty duty if the Oranje does earn one. Memphis Depay took one during qualifying, but he missed that opportunity.

I just feel that Gakpo is a great price considering his next opponent, and I’ll gladly add him to my futures portfolio for my final Euro 2024 Quarterfinals best bet article.
