MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 13
Kansas City Royals vs. Houston Astros
First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
We rode this series on Monday night to an NRFI and we’re back at it again on Tuesday. A big part of why I like this series is the futility of the Royal’s hitting. While they eventually racked up a bunch of runs in the last game, they still rank 27th in the majors in terms of runs scored. They’ll have to face Framber Valdez in this game. While he had a slow start to the season, he really buckled down in the last one. He went 7.0 innings against the Brewers and held them to just one run (a solo homer) while striking out seven.
The bats in the bottom of the inning are yet another reason I’m loving this series. The Astros have been a touch better than the Royals with the bats, but they have been terrible in the first inning. They rank dead last in terms of first inning scoring with just 0.21 first inning runs per game. Kris Bubic will look to keep that trend in tact. He brings a 1.69 ERA into action on Tuesday and hasn’t allowed a run in 12.0 innings. With as bad as the Astros have been in the first inning, I don’t think they’ll get going early against him.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 13: No (TBD)
New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV
It’s always dangerous to get down on an NRFI when the Yankees are involved. They are the best scoring team in the league with a slew of dudes who can hit homers. However, the Mariners are sending out Bryan Woo, who has done well at limiting long balls. In his last 32.1 innings, he’s allowed just two homers. That’s helped to lower his ERA to a respectable 3.25. I think if anyone can set the table for this NRFI, he might be the guy.
The bottom half of the inning is far less of a sweat. For one, the Mariners are not quite the slugging team that the Yankees are. They have some big hitters with lots of homers, but they score quite a bit less than the Yankees. The other reason it will be less of a sweat is that the Bombers have Max Fried on the bump. He’s got just a 1.05 ERA and has allowed just one earned run in his last four starts (27.2 innings). I’d take him to get an NRFI against an all-star team right now, so of course I like him against the Mariners.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 13: No (TBD)
