MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 27

Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies

First Pitch – 3:10 pm EST
Coors Field – Denver, CO
Broadcast – MLB TV

It’s always a bit hairy to play an NRFI in Coors Field. The high elevation makes home runs a danger to any line, which is perhaps why we’re getting this one at plus-money. However, I’m still going to trust the arms involved in this one, as both have been solid this year.

First to take the bump is Ryan Feltner, who has been strong for the Rockies. In his two starts at home this year, he holds just a 2.45 ERA and has struck out more than one per inning. Over the whole season, he’s only allowed more than two earned runs in one of his five starts. That was an unfortunate run in with the powerful Dodgers’ squad – which the Reds likely won’t be able match.

The bottom of the inning will rely on Nick Lodolo to keep the home squad in the park. That should be easier since the Rockies aren’t really taking many people long on the year. Despite the advantages of their home field, they still rank 22nd in the league in home runs per game at 0.88. Lodolo’s 2.79 ERA is good enough – especially when you add in that he’s allowed less than a home run per outing.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 27: No (+105)

Texas Rangers vs. San Francisco Giants

First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Oracle Park – San Francisco, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

This game is another where I love the pitching matchup and imagine it should carry us to our NRFI play. Jordan Hicks toes the rubber to get things started. He’s been getting touched up a bit over his last three starts, but his fastball still plays as he racks up the strikeouts. Additionally, his rough outings have been against offenses like the Phillies and the Yankees. Meanwhile, the Rangers rank dead last in runs per game this season at 3.11. They’ve been even worse over their last three – where they’ve scored just 2.33 per game.

Jack Leiter returns to action Sunday following a finger injury. Prior to that, he had thrown 10.0 innings on the young season and allowed only one run. He stuck out ten over that span as well. The Giants are definitely more formidable of an offense in terms of run scoring. However, they are middle of the pack when it comes to scoring in the first inning. They’ve been a bit worse in that category as of late, scoring just one first inning run in their last four games.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 27: No (-140)
