MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 15
Houston Astros vs. St. Louis Cardinals
First Pitch – 7:45 pm EST
Busch Stadium – St. Louis, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV
We rode this series to an NRFI win on Monday night and I’m doubling down on the series. In the top of the first, we have a team in the Astros that simply can’t find the early runs. They now rank dead last in first inning production with just 0.13 runs per game in the inning. Their overall offense is a bit better, but it’s still ranked 20th in the league. Meanwhile, they’ll now face Erick Fedde of the Cardinals, who is coming off of one of his best outings in his career. He went 6.0 innings and didn’t allow a hit to the Pirates last time out.
To close out the NRFI, we’ll put our trust in Hunter Brown. The Astros’ righty has looked sharp all year and saved his best outing for last time. He went 6.0 innings against the Mariners and allowed no run on just two hits. He also didn’t walk a single batter in the process. The Cardinals, much like Houston, are not particularly adept at scoring early. They rank 25th in the majors with just 0.25 first inning runs per game.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 15: No (-145)
Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
In the nightcap, Randy Vasquez will be the first pitcher to toe the rubber. He comes into action on Tuesday with just a 1.72 ERA on the season. He’s also allowed just seven hits in 15.2 innings of work. While I’m aware that the Cubs offense has been hot, I do think that Vasquez has shown he can limit the damage. The big thing for him will just making sure that he is able to limit the walks he doles out.
In the bottom of the inning, we have another tough offense in the Padres. They’ve actually been the best team in the majors when it comes to putting up first inning runs. However, I trust the arm trying to limit them. Shota Imanaga has been solid whenever he’s healthy. He’s kept his ERA to a respectable 2.70 this year and is carrying a WHIP of under 1.00. Two weeks ago, he got a start against this same Padres team and mowed them down. He went 7.1 innings with just one earned run in picking up the win.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 15: No (-115)
