MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 13
Kansas City Royals vs. Cleveland Guardians
First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Royals and their brutal offense gets first hacks on Sunday. They have had a hell of a time getting runs across the plate on this short season. Coming into Siunday, they rank 29th in MLB with just 3.20 runs per game (just ahead of the Rockies). They’ll get their licks off of Ben Lively, who doesn’t have the best surface numbers in the league. While his 4.40 ERA is unlikely to impress anyone, he has looked good in the early part of each game he’s pitched. In three starts, he’s been scoreless going into the third each time.
The bottom of the inning sees a much better set of bats take swings. Cleveland is still far from world beaters when it comes to scoring runs. They rank 16th in the majors at 4.07 per game, which is respectable. However, they’ll have a much taller task in front on them. Cole Ragans gets the nod for Sunday’s action. He is coming off of back-to-back games of allowing just a single earned run. In both of those games, he topped double digit strikeout numbers. He should be able to slam the door on this NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 13: No (-145)
Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV
We were hard luck losers on an NRFI play in this game on Saturday. We predicted Bryan Woo would be lights out and he was. He held the Rangers to just one run over seven innings, but unfortunately that run came in the first. Texas is still scoring just 3.33 runs per game and the Mariners pitching staff is one I feel we can trust. Logan Gilbert is the pitcher du jour for Sunday’s menu. He’s coming off a 5.2 inning performance against the Astros where he held them to just one earned run with seven strikeouts. That should be good enough to start our NRFI off right.
Nathan Eovaldi will be one one trying to finish off this NRFI. He’s got a 2.29 ERA on the short season with 21 strikeouts in just 19.2 innings. Seattle’s offense has shown some life as of late, but they do take a while to get going. They rank 17th in the majors in runs, but 27th when it comes to scoring in the first inning. They’ve posted just 0.20 runs per game in the first inning on the year, which is enough to trust Eovaldi in this spot.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 13: No (-155)
