MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 10

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox

First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – NESN

The top of the first here is likely to be the shakiest part of any of our plays. It’s not that the Blue Jays offense is ripping the ball all over the park – in fact, they aren’t at all. They rank 17th in MLB in runs scored and haven’t been particularly potent early in the game at all. However, Walker Buehler is a bit of a question mark right now. He stuggled in both of his first two outings, but seemed to find something a bit in the early part of the last one. He had his last opponent scoreless through the first couple innings and I think he can recapture that here against a so-so Toronto squad.

The bottom of the inning gives me far less panic. The Red Sox, while they are hitting the ball well, have a tough task in front of them with Chris Bassitt. He’s allowed just one earned run on the season in the 12.2 innings that he’s pitched. He looked like nobody could touch him in either of those outings, so I’ll bank on him being about to get us at least three outs in this one on Thursday.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 10: No (-125)

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves

First Pitch – 7:05 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top of the first, we’ll rely on the Braves’ arms. Spencer Schwellenbach takes the hill again and he’s been impossible to score on so far – quite literally. Over the course of his two outings, he’s yet to allow a single earned run. He’s also only allowed three hits and a single walk on the year. All of this is while producing 14.0 innings and 14 strikeouts. With the Phillies having some guys with swing and miss at the top of the order, I expect Schwellenbach to coast early on in this one.

In the bottom of the first, we’ll rely on the Braves’ bats – or lack thereof. Sure, they’ve come alive a bit in the recent games, but they still rank 28th in the majors in runs scored. If you can’t get behind a straight fade of the Braves, you can also trust Jesus Luzardo. The Phillies starter has given up only two runs in his first 12.0 innings for this year. I don’t imagine the third he gives up will come in the opening frame against these Braves.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 10: No (-140)
