MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 1
New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot Park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
In the top of the first, we’re going to rely on Sandy Ancantara to keep the Mets off the board. While the Mets’ bats have been plenty active, Alcantara looked like his old self in his first start of the year. He through 4.2 innings and allowed 2 ERs – however, both of those runs came late when he started to tire. He easily cruised through the first four innings without really being all that much in trouble. While the Mets are a bit tougher than the Pirates in terms of the offense, I do expect that Alcanatara can get us one scoreless on Tuesday.
In the bottom, we’re fading the bats as much as we’re trusting the pitching. There really hasn’t been much to tell if Kodai Senga is the 2023 version that we were all hyped on or if he is falling apart at the seams. However, the Marlins have only scored one first inning run all year. Additionally, they have not been knocking the cover off the ball all game. They average a modest 4.0 runs per game. As a result, we’ll put our trust in Senga to finish off the NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 1: No (-155)
Detroit Tigers vs. Seattle Mariners
First Pitch – 9:40 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, WA
Broadcast – MLB TV
In the night cap, we’ll see a good set of bats come to the plate in the first. The Tigers are amongst the best in the league at scoring in the first inning and have come out of the gates hot overall. However, they’ll run into Logan Gilbert here, who I feel like we can trust for at least three outs. He went 7.0 innings last time out and only allowed a single run. He also racked up eight strikeouts over that outing and seemed every bit as dominant as NRFI bettors would hope.
On the other side, I’d take just about anyone to blank the Mariners early right now. They are scoring just 2.8 runs per game early in the season. Also, Casey Mize isn’t just anyone. Sure, his ERA was a touch high last season, but much of that is due to faltering down the stretch. Through April of last year, Mize carried a 3.08 ERA and looked good in May too. Now that he’s fully rested, I expect something closer to that version.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 1: No (-165)
