NBA First Bucket Props – March 27
Houston Rockets vs. Utah Jazz
Tipoff – 9:00 pm EST
Delta Center – Salt Lake City, UT
Broadcast – NBA TV
This game is a bit of a perplexing one when it comes to the first bucket. On one hand, the Rockets have been a sub-par team when it comes to winning the jump. They’re winning just 45.2% of the tips and their starting center Alperen Sengun has been even worse than that (41.9%). Despite those facts, they have been very good on the first bucket on the year – placing 6th in the NBA. While that is a touch better than the Jazz, the tip rate is so far lower that it alarms me. Walker Kessler is winning 60.7% of his tips. With the tip winner getting 65.6% of the first buckets this year, I like playing the Jazz side in this one.
If you look at the shot log in the last three games that the Jazz have played in, it’s really been a two-player race to get the first bucket. Collin Sexton and Kyle Filipowski are the names that dominate the early part of the game for the Jazz. If you take the first three shots in each of the last three games, over half of those shots belong to those two. With the bulk of the recent first buckets allowed by the Rockets going to guards, we’ll ride with Sexton in this one.
First Bucket Bet for March 27: Collin Sexton (TBD)
Portland Trail Blazers vs. Sacramento Kings
Tipoff – 10:00 pm EST
Golden 1 Center – Sacramento, CA
Broadcast – NBA TV
This game features two of the four worst teams in the league in terms of getting the first bucket. The Blazers are scoring first just 41.1% of the time, with the Kings scoring first 41.7% of the time. What this really comes down to is who can get the earliest chances in the game, which emphatically falls on the Blazers. They lead the Kings by 10.4% when it comes to winning the tip on the year. While neither Donovan Clingan or Domantas Sabonis is lighting the world on fire in the circle, we’ll get a slight nod to the Blazers in this one.
If we’re looking to get greedy and play a specific player in this one, why look any further than Toumani Camara. The Belgian forward took one of the first shots in the Blazers last game. In the game prior, he took two of the first three shots in the game – which included taking the first overall shot for them. If you look at last year, they used him a lot down the stretch when resting their starters and this may be another spot where he can capitalize.
First Bucket Bet for March 27: Toumani Camara (TBD)
