The UFC’s octagon continues its world tour this month, leaving The O2 Arena in London, England this past weekend to set up shop in Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico this coming weekend. And, just like in London, we’ve got a native son and former champ in the main event. For my MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Mexico City, I’ve got the winning play for that aforementioned main event.

MMA Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Mexico City
UFC Fight Night: Moreno vs Erceg (aka UFC Mexico City)
Main Card Start Time: 7:00 PM EST (ESPN2/ESPN+)
The former champ headlining in Mexico City would be Brandon Moreno, a two-time UFC Flyweight Champion during his career. His opponent, from Australia, is Steve Erceg, who unsuccessfully challenged for that very same belt.
Erceg hasn’t won a fight since that title challenge, dropping two straight. At the time he seemed to be pushed into the title picture a bit too quickly, and that has played out to be true. In Saturday’s matchup, I like Moreno to continue the slump for the Australian.
Moreno has fought the absolute elite of the sport and despite the experience gap, is only a year older than Erceg. The Mexican is Erceg’s equal on the feet and is probably a tad better on the ground. While you would expect Moreno to have the advantage since this is on home soil and he’s been training at altitude, he actually is 0-2-1 fighting in Mexico for the UFC. It’s time to get himself a home win.
