Super Bowl LIX Preview and Predictions: Chiefs vs. Eagles

Super Bowl LIX Preview and Predictions: Chiefs vs. EaglesThe final game of the 2024-2025 season takes place in New Orleans for all the marbles! Super Bowl LIX features a rematch of Super Bowl LVII between the defeating Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs got the best of the Eagles a few seasons again in the Super Bowl winning 38-35. Now, the Eagles seek to avenge that loss on Sunday and hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Below are the Super Bowl LIX Chiefs vs. Eagles Preview and Predictions.

On the injury front, the Chiefs come into this game healthy. No one is listed on their injury report, and everyone is a full go. Meanwhile, for the NFC Champs, Cam Jurgens, who missed the NFC Championship game with a back injury, is fully practicing and will play. Additionally, Kenneth Gainwell, who was in concussion protocol, has cleared and will be ready to play.

It was reported earlier this week, there is an illness going around the Eagles locker room on the defensive side. Something to monitor but I don’t expect this to amount to anything big.

Chiefs vs. Eagles Preview and Predictions

Best Bets

As I mentioned above, the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII by a score of 38-35. The following season, the rematch took place in Kansas City, and the Eagles won the game 27-14. But more importantly, the Eagles want to avenge the loss and win the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs come into this game looking to complete the first-ever three-peat in NFL history led by Patrick Mahomes. I believe this game will be won in the trenches. The Eagle’s offensive and defensive lines ranked one of the best in the entire NFL. Led by Jalen Carter on the defensive line the Eagles. Additionally, the Eagles offensive and defensive lines ranked top 10 in pass block, run block, run stop, and pass stop win rates.

Meanwhile, the argument can be made that the Chiefs were a “luck box” this season with the luck factor in their favor. However, when you give Coach Andy Reid two weeks to prepare for an opponent that typically generates plenty of success for the Chiefs. One of the strengths of the Chiefs defense during the regular season was their rush defense. That defense faltered a bit in the postseason where they allowed Joe Mixon to average 4.9 yards per carry and 6.9 to James Cook. For reference, the Chiefs allowed only 4.2 yards per carry during the regular season.

Some can make the argument that Jalen Hurts played the best game of his NFL career in Super Bowl LVII where he had 374 scrimmage yards and four total touchdowns. Let’s not forget, that the Eagles have the 2024-2025 Offensive Player of the Year in their backfield Saquon Barkley. At the end of the night, if the Eagles won the Super Bowl, it’s because Jalen Hurts had a big game for the Eagles. There are two areas where the Chiefs will focus.

One is generating pressure on Jalen Hurts which is his weakness. Hurts ranks at the bottom of the league when he feels pressure. Secondly, can the Chiefs defense contain Saquon Barkley? The success of the Eagles offense will be on Jalen Hurts arm and shoulder and I believe he rises to the occasion.

Player Prop Best Bets

DeVonta Smith Longest Reception Over 20.5 Yards

This will be the fourth career matchup against the Chiefs for DeVonta Smith in his career. Not only has Smith crushed it against the Chiefs receiving yards but he has been a down-the-field threat for the Eagles offense. In fact, in the three career games against the Chiefs, Smith has recorded a long reception of 37, 41, and 45. Further, Smith has at least 99 receiving yards in all three games against the Eagles. I would expect another big game here from Smith for the Eagles.

Samajae Perine Over 7.5 Receiving Yards

This prop bet is a bit sneaky but the Chiefs have turned to Perine in the pass catching situations this season. In fact, during the regular season, Perine exceeded this projection in 14 of the 17 games. In the AFC Championship game, Perine delivered the game winning catch that went for 17 yards. Furthermore, Perine averaged 11.5 yards per catch during the regular season.

Dallas Goedert Over 51.5 Receiving Yards

I have talked about this all season long, the Chiefs allow the most receiving yards to the tight end position. Despite the Bills tight ends not being able to get over their projections, Goedert has been on another level for the Eagles. In the three playoff games this year, Goedert has exceeded his projection. In Super Bowl LVII against the Chiefs, Goedert finished the game with 6 receptions for 60 yards. Goedert has also recorded a long reception of at least 24 yards in all three playoff games, his longest reception sits at 19.5
