MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Fury Pro Grappling 12
Fury Pro Grappling 12 215lbs Match: Pat Downey vs Andre Petroski
Main Card Start Time: Saturday, 7:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
If this was a pure MMA fight, this would be a no-brainer. Petroski is much more well-rounded that his counterpart in this match, but unfortunately for him this match doesn’t require more than one skillset.
As a result, I favor Downey here. Despite his checkered past, he has some very impressive wrestling accolades. He’s been solid at transferring those skills to grappling matches – picking up a win over Luke Rockhold at the Craig Jones Invitational.
All grappling organizations have slightly different rulesets. Fury leans heavily on position to determine a winner if a submission doesn’t happen. With Downey having a wide advantage in wrestling ability, he may need to just be sure not to get submitted and the judges should see this one his way.
