The 2024 Season’s Bowl games are officially here! We are into our third day of bowl games and there is only one game today! 2024 Season Today’s Bowl Games Best Bets – Thursday, December 19th
New Orleans Bowl: Georgia Southern vs. Sam Houston State
The only bowl game today is between two teams that the casual fan may not know. Georgia Southern went 8-4 this year and had impressive wins over Coastal Carolina and Marshall. They face off against Sam Houston State today. Sam Houston State finished the season with a 9-3 record, closing their season winning eight of the last ten.
Georgia Southern went 8-3-1 against the spread while Sam Houston State was 6-6 against the spread. These teams may be smaller schools than the powerhouses, but they play good football and this game should be good. Georgia Southern’s offense averaged 239.9 passing yards a game this year and 124.2 rushing yards a game. Sam Houston State’s defense allowed an average of 174.1 passing yards and 141.5 rushing yards.
Sam Houston State’s offense averaged 164.4 passing yards a game and 190.3 rushing yards. Georgia Southern’s defense allowed an average of 262.4 passing yards a game and 179.8 rushing yards. While Georgia Southern may have the better passing game, their defense isn’t as good as Sam Houston State’s. Sam Houston should look to control this game on the ground.
If you are a casual fan and haven’t seen these two play, it will be a fun game to watch. The total is a little lower, at 46.5, but I think it’s set properly by the books. This game may be more of a slow burn rather than the fast-paced passing game we too often see. With low scoring and a good run game, the dogs are barking. This is a fun bowl game to watch for our best bets.
