College Basketball Picks December 17

Duke -19.5 vs. George Mason

The fifth-ranked Blue Devils take on the George Mason Patriots of the A-10 in this one. Some trends are leading me to side with Duke in this one. First off, Duke hasn’t played a game since December 10th, meaning they’ve had six full days off from games. This season, when they have four or more days of rest, the Blue Devils are 3-0 against the spread. Overall, Duke is 6-4 against the spread, and at home, they are 4-2.

George Mason is also 6-4 against the spread on the season, but they have only been underdogs once, in a matchup against Marquette where they lost by 19. Especially in Cameron Indoor, I expect Duke’s top-ranked defense to swarm a George Mason squad that struggles offensively.

Dayton -11.5 vs. UNLV

Now, let’s pivot to one of the most profitable teams in the country all season. The Dayton Flyers are 8-2 against the spread this season, and their offense is as legitimate as it gets. KenPom ranks Dayton as the 10th-best offense in the country. The Flyers are shooting 37.7% from three this season and 43.5% in their last three games.

This bodes well against a UNLV squad that has allowed the three-pointer alarmingly. The Rebels allow opponents to shoot 36.5% from downtown, the 304th-best rank in the country– not extraordinary. At home, Dayton should get out to a nice lead against a less-than-impressive UNLV squad.
