College Basketball Picks November 22
UCF +4.5 vs. Wisconsin
Coming into this one, we have a solid matchup of two undefeated teams with quality wins. Wisconsin beat Arizona at home by 15, putting together a dominant offensive performance. UCF, on the other hand, has two quality wins against Texas A&M and FAU. Both of these games were in Orlando.
The Badgers have been carried by transfer John Tonje, sophomore John Blackwell, and senior Max Klesmit. They have been shooting at an insane clip from downtown. I think this is due for some regression, especially on the road. In addition, UCF’s 7’2 freshman rim protector, Moustapha Thiam, should offer some resistance that Wisconsin hasn’t seen so far this season.
Riding with the home dog in this one.
Florida -17.5 vs. Southern Illinois
I’ve only ridden with Florida once before, but I am super high on them this season. They are a rim-running machine and frequently get to the free-throw line. KenPom ranks Florida as the country’s ninth-best offense. Walter Clayton Jr. is an elite finisher and has truly led this team through its first five games.
Florida has yet to shoot the ball well from downtown this season, making threes at a rate of 29.8%. I think this is due for an uptick especially against a defense as poor as Southern Illinois’. Southern Illinois is also a smaller team (10/14 players are 6’8 and shorter) with no true rim protector. I think it plays right into the hands of the Gators, who will roll easily in this one.
