College Basketball Picks November 15
Alabama -2.5 @ Purdue and Over 164.5 Points Total
We faded Alabama in their last matchup, as the point spread was just too high against a really formidable McNeese squad. In this game against Purdue, I’ll be backing the Crimson Tide against a Purdue squad, which I’m not too much of a believer in. Both teams walk into this game relatively untested as far as opponents go. Yes, McNeese is solid, but they don’t rival the challenges the Purdue offense brings.
This is a matchup against the fourth (Purdue) and sixth-best (Alabama) offenses in the nation, according to KenPom. For that reason, the over is also a good play and one I’ll be taking as well.
Alabama is one of the deepest teams in the country. They have experienced guards in Mark Sears and Latrell Wrightsell Jr., elite bigs in Grant Nelson and Cliff Omoruyi, and a young phenom in Derrion Reid. The Tide have five players averaging at least 10.0 points per game.
On the other side, the Boilermakers are led by upperclassmen Fletcher Loyer, Trey Kaufman-Renn, and Braden Smith. They also replaced Zach Edey’s paint presence seamlessly, bringing in 7’4 freshman center Daniel Jacobsen.
At the end of the day, I think this game comes down to Alabama’s depth. They haven’t shot it well from deep so far this year, but I think that changes in this spot. The Tide simply have more guys you can trust down the stretch.
