NBA First Scorer Props – November 1
NEw York Knicks vs. Detroit Pistons
Tipoff – 7:00 pm EST
Little Caesers Arena – Detroit, MI
Broadcast – NBA TV
Neither of these teams have been brilliant when it comes to getting the first possession. On the season, each team has just one tip win to their name. However, what they’ve done with that differs greatly. The Knicks have managed just a single first bucket in their four games played, which given their tip numbers is to be expected. However, the Pistons have done far more with their limitations. In their five games, they’ve scored first in four of them. Their ability to play defense and make the use of their first possessions have paid off. With a reasonable chance to win the tip here as well, I like them even more.
There are a lot of names to like on this Pistons team when it comes to early shooting. Tim Hardaway Jr., for instance, already has two first scores to his name on the year and posts at a big number. However, I’m going to go with another one that has been trending upwards in Tobias Harris. He’s taken one of the first four shots for the Pistons in each of the last four games. Additionally, he gets to the line a fair amount, which could result in the first score as well.
First Scorer Bet for November 1: Tobias Harris (+800)
Sacramento Kings vs. Atlanta Hawks
Tipoff – 7:30 pm EST
State Farm Arena – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – NBA TV
It’s hard to fade the Kings when they’ve scored every first bucket on the year. They are currently the only team who has done so in every game. Not only is that near impossible to keep up, but it’s even more wildly unlikely given their tip situation. They are only winning half of their tips on the year. On top of that, they are sending out Domantas Sabonis, who won just 28.6% of the tips last year. With Clint Capela out pacing him this year and last and the Hawks being a solid first bucket team (right around 60% in both this and last year), they seem like the right team to break this trend.
If a player from the Hawks is going to break this up, it should be Jalen Johnson. He had double digit first buckets last year and already has one this year as well. But it isn’t just his past results that I like. He’s also getting a lot of volume from the Hawks. He trails only Trae Young in shot attempts on the year and is getting plenty of those early. He’s taken one of the first two shots in two of the last three games – including the first shot out of the gate last time. Look for him to get another early look here.
First Scorer Bet for November 1: Jalen Johnson (+650)
