The pitching matchups in games one and two favored a first inning run. All the metrics seemed to lean that way and even the betting lines were skewed more towards the YRFI. However, two games in and we still haven’t had a first inning run. Now the pitching matchup might be a bit better, and as a result, we’re going to hit up the NRFI.
Clarke Schmidt will be the first big part of that NRFI. While he hasn’t been going deep into games, he has looked good in the early parts. In just two playoff starts, he’s yet to allow a first inning run. He held the Guardians scoreless into the third. In the game prior, he held the Royals without a run until the fifth. Being that we only need a scoreless first from him, he should be able to start us off right.
The bottom of the inning will see Walker Buehler on the bump. He had a rocky start to his postseason when he allowed six runs in five innings to the Padres. All of those runs came in a distaster second inning – meaning he gave us a scoreless first. His second playoff start was much cleaner, having eliminated that ugly inning. He went four scoreless against the Mets and only allowed three hits in the process. If we see that version of him in Yankee Stadium, it should be an easy finish to the NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 28: No (-130)
