MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 6
New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies
First Pitch – 4:08 pm EST
Citizens Bank Park – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Broadcast – FS1
In the first game of the day, I’m taking a rare YRFI for my play. I’m not sure that I trust either of these pitchers, particularly in big games as this stage. Christopher Sanchez has seen the Mets twice in his last three games. That level of familiarity is already an alarm, but also, he didn’t look great early in those games. He gave up two first inning runs in the most recent of the two of them. That game included a pair of hits, a walk and a wild pitch. I don’t think he’ll be quite that bad again, but when we pair it with the questions in the bottom of the inning, I like the YRFI.
The other side of this equation is the Luis Severino of it all. He’ll be facing the home run heavy top of this order, which is a problem for him. He’s allowed 1.63 home runs per nine innings over his last four games. He’s also carried a 5.32 ERA over that period of time. Between the issues with Sanchez and how Severino has looked lately, you have to imagine one of these teams are going to get on the board.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 6: Yes (TBD)
San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 8:03 pm EST
Dodgers Stadium – Los Angeles, California
Broadcast – FS1
We saw an offensive outbrust from the Padres in the first inning of game 1, but I like Jack Flaherty’s chance to calm them down on Sunday. He was a little rougher down the stretch, but still finished with a 3.17 ERA on the season. Additionally, he held NRFIs for each of his last two starts of the season. That includes a game with these very same Padres in the last game of the season.
In the bottom of the inning, we see Yu Darvish ready to get back at it against his former club. He’s seen a lot of success against his former team, with all of it coming after leaving the team. He’s thrown a grand total of 15 times against the Dodgers, and has held a 2.27 ERA against them lifetime. He also has 104 strikeouts in 91.1 career innings against them. This season, those trends have continued. He allowed just three earned runs in 15.2 innings against them. The revenge game alone gets me to liking the NRFI here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 6: No (TBD)
