College football is back, and that means it is time to start previewing the new and revamped College Football Playoff bracket. Who is in and who is out each week? The Sports Gambling Podcast and the College Football Experience are bringing you weekly picks, predictions, and previews for every game and the entire futures market. Expanded CFP Format
After years of cockamamy and corporate gambling-influenced college football invitationals, we have a real playoff. Sure, it’s not at March Madness levels yet, but we have a real tournament. Twelve teams will compete for college football’s ultimate prize. Four of those teams will receive a bye into the quarterfinals, specifically, the four highest-ranked conference champions. That’s right, folks. Conference championship games matter again! Sure, the CFP committee still sets the bracket, but with 12 teams, it’s much better than it was.
After those four, the next eight seeds (5-12) are determined by CFP ranking, with the higher seeds (5, 6, 7, and 8) hosting first-round games on campus. On-campus playoff college football is about to reset the bar for experiences so be sure to also check out our Stadium Heads podcast to get in the mood.
The quarterfinals, semifinals, and CFP Championship games will be played on a rotating set of bowl games and locations. The Bowl Games in the quarterfinals and semifinals rotation are the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. This will keep the pageantry of college football bowl season alive even as the College Football Playoff moves to a bracket.
