Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – August 20
Ezequiel Tovar Higher Than 6.5 Fantasy Points
Ezequiel Tovar has put together a solid sophomore season thus far in 2024. The young shortstop has already proven to play elite defense, and this year has excelled at the plate. Yes, he strikes out a lot and barely walks, but he has been hitting the ball over the fence this year.
Tovar has also been hitting better this season on the road, which is rare for a Rockies player hitting at Coors Field. On Tuesday, Tovar and the Rockies face the Washington Nationals. Washington is going with DJ Herz as their starting pitcher today.
Tovar has faced Herz just three times in his career and is 3-3 with a home run and an average exit velocity of 97.1 MPH. He has struggled a bit in the month of August, but I think this is a matchup that can get him back on track!
Adley Rutschman Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Rutschman’s struggles since the All-Star break have been one reason for the Orioles’ slide to second place in the AL East. He recently snapped his 22-game homerun-less streak on Sunday. If there is one thing Rutschman has done consistently this season at the plate, it would be his ability to mash left-handed pitching.
On Tuesday, the 26-year-old will face Mets’ starter Jose Quintana. Quintana has a 6.89 ERA in August, and has allowed 12 runs in his last three starts. I think Adley breaks out in a huge way in this spot.
