Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – August 14
Jose Altuve Higher Than 6.5 Fantasy Points
They seemed down and out at the beginning of the season, but the Astros are inevitable. They have won seven consecutive games and are now in first place by a game and a half. Jose Altuve is having yet another productive season at the age of 34, although he’s posting the third-lowest OPS of his career.
On Wednesday, Altuve and the Astros are facing the Tampa Bay Rays, who have Zack Littell on the mound. Littell has a 4.11 ERA in 23 starts this season, which isn’t too bad for a guy who has only made 18 career starts before 2024.
Altuve has solid numbers in his career against Littell. He is 4-5 with an xBA of .557 and an average exit velocity of 87.5 MPH. His 6.5 Fantasy Points number seems quite low in this spot, so be sure to add him to your Underdog Fantasy daily pick ’em contests.
Shohei Ohtani Higher Than 10.5 Fantasy Points
Full disclosure: Ohtani has been struggling in August. He is hitting just .191 but somehow still has an OPS of .810. That’s just laughable stuff right there.
I really like Ohtani in this spot because of his career success against Brewers starter Frankie Montas. Ohtanhi is 11-27 against Montas with 5 home runs and an average exit velocity of 94.6 MPH! This Fantasy Points number does seem super high, but a home run would do it for us.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Higher Than 7.5 Fantasy Points
In past articles, we have raved about Vladdy Jr.’s 2024 campaign, and today is a spot where I absolutely love him. Guerrero is facing a left-handed pitcher in Tyler Anderson, who is having a solid season in his own right. Vlad’s 1.044 OPS against LHP is one of the best in baseball and is even better than his OPS against righties.
He is also 3-6 against Anderson in his career, with an xBA of .479 with an average exit velocity of 97 MPH. This is a can’t-miss, slam-dunk pick!
