Carolina Panthers 2024 Season Preview

The Carolina Panthers had the worst record in all of the National Football League in 2023. They went just 2-15. Head Coach Frank Reich was fired after just 11 games, in which he went 1-10. 2023 No. 1 overall Draft pick Bryce Young didn’t spark a lot of hope in Panthers fans.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, getting Young last year cost them this year’s No. 1 overall pick, which instead went to the Chicago Bears. The Panthers traded back into this year’s first round with the Buffalo Bills to get the guy they identified at wide receiver with pick No. 32 Xavier Legette from the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The Panthers also traded with the Steelers for wide receiver Dionte Johnson from the Pittsburgh Steelers. They’ve put the pieces around Bryce Young, now the ball is in his hands. The Panthers also hired a new head coach, Dave Canales, who comes over after serving as the offensive coordinator for the division-rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Panthers Roster Overhaul

Any discussion or preview of the 2024 Carolina Panthers has to cover the rebuilding and overhauling of their roster. With the departures of DJ Chark, Laviska Shenault, and Hayden Hurst, they cleared out and revamped their receiver room. Then they traded Brian Burns and moved on from multiple members of the secondary. With this overhaul, the Panthers will be looking at rebuilding what was a top-five defense in yards allowed last season.

Despite moving on from Frank Reich, Carolina did keep rising coaching star Ejiro Evero on as defensive coordinator. Evero was crucial in strengthening the Panthers’ defense last season. It remains to be seen if Evero can create the same results with the loss of Chinn, Bell, Jackson, and Griffin. With that in mind, any progress Carolina makes this year is dependent upon the defense not losing a step.
