Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 30
Willi Castro Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Super-utility man Willi Castro has been a staple in the Twins lineup all season. The 27-year-old switch-hitter is one of the most underrated players in baseball. On Thursday, Castro and the Twins take on the first-place Royals. Brady Singer was the scheduled starter until he was scratched with an illness. Daniel Lynch IV will start for Minnesota instead, making just his third appearance of the year.
Castro has great numbers against Lynch in his career. He is 7-14 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, and 3 RBIs. Although Lynch might not be pitching in this game for long, I think Castro can make the most of his 1 to 2 at-bats against him.
Zac Gallen Higher than 33.5 Fantasy Points
Oh, what a trainwreck of a season it has been for the New York Mets. After being swept by the Dodgers, they now get the treat of facing one of MLB’s best pitchers, Zac Gallen. Although Gallen has not been his dominant self this season thus far, I am fading the Mets in this spot. The Mets have scored less than 5 runs in six of their last seven games; a struggling offense, to say the least. The Mets are also 6-14 in their last 20 games. Just absolutely brutal. Hammer Gallen in this spot.
Gleyber Torres Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
Although he has started slow, Gleyber Torres has been hitting the ball much better lately, recording five hits in his last five games. The reason I love this play is the starting pitcher Torres will be facing, Patrick Sandoval. Sandoval is 2-7 this season with a 5.60 ERA. He is even worse at home, with an ERA of 7.11.
Torres has a few hits against Sandoval in his career, but what I’m focused on is the even larger sample size of Torres against lefties. Although he has not had much success this season, over his career, Torres hits lefties very well with an .845 OPS.
