Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 28

Will Benson Higher Than 0.5 Bases

Former top prospect Will Benson is not enjoying the same success he had last season so far in 2024. The 25-year-old is hitting below the Mendoza line despite his 7 home runs. Benson has been picking it up a bit recently, recording big hits in two of his last three games. His bread and butter at the plate is hitting right-handed pitching, and that is what he’ll have today, at least to start.

Cardinals starter Kyle Gibson is scheduled to take the hill on Tuesday. I like this matchup for Benson because Gibson is not overpowering, so if he misses his location, Benson can do some damage. Also, 0.5 bases is not too much of a commitment, so a simple base hit is all we need!

Ryan McMahon Higher Than 0.5 Runs

Ryan McMahon is already being discussed as a prime trade candidate for competing teams at the trade deadline. The 29-year-old is having one of the best starts to a season in his career, slashing .288/.370/.490 with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs. On Tuesday, McMahon will face Triston McKenzie of the Guardians to start.

McKenzie has struggled a bit with the long ball this season, so I expect this trend to continue at Coors Field. McMahon is well-positioned at the top of the order to get on base and score a run. Or better yet, he himself hits a home run!

Aaron Judge Higher Than 0.5 RBIs

Although Judge burned us a bit in April, he has been unbelievable in May. He now leads the league in OPS, which is comical when you consider how bad he was to start the season. Judge has been an RBI machine as of late, recording 7 RBIs in his last five games. I REALLY love his matchup tonight against Angels starter Griffin Canning. Canning has been bad this season, and now he has to deal with the hottest hitter in baseball! He’s too hot not to take here!
