Way Too Early NFL Week 1 Picks
Season-Long NFL Underdog Fantasy Football Pick’Em
Marvin Harrison Jr Higher Than 1050.5 Receiving Yards
We’re going to dive right into the fire with one of the most exciting rookie wide receiver prospects to enter the NFL lately. Last season, Puka Nacua set the single-season rookie receiving mark with 1,486 yards for the Rams. Ja’Marr Chase caught 1,455 yards in his rookie season in 2021. Justin Jefferson went for 1,400 in his rookie season, which was only a 16-game season.
19 rookie wide receivers have surpassed the 1050.5 mark, with all but three of those doing it prior to the 17-game regular season schedule. Harrison comes into a good situation with an established quarterback who has produced a 1400-yard receiver before in Deandre Hopkins. Harrison is explosive and should be a threat in the NFL from day one.
Saquon Barkley Higher Than 7.5 Rushing Touchdowns
Barkley heads over to Philadelphia to join the Eagles for the 2024 season. Jason Kelce has retired, but the “tush push” will remain a legal play. One of the main benefits of bringing a stud running back like Barkley in though, is to save the abuse on Jalen Hurts when he doesn’t need to take it.
When the Eagles get down to the one-yard line, the Tush Push will still be a viable option, but when you’ve got Saquon Barkley right there, he’s a great option to just punch it in. The touchdown product hasn’t always been there for Barkley, but neither has a productive offense in New York.
Going to an elite offense in Philadelphia, Barkley can easily put up 10 touchdowns like he did in 2022 or 11 touchdowns like he had in 2018. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Barkley set a new career high in 2024, and this is one of my favorite season-long NFL Underdog fantasy football pick’em’s.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Higher Than 1250.5 Receiving Yards
St. Brown is poised to have a big year in Detroit. I’m prepared to draft him early in fantasy football and expect massive production from the “Sun God.” In 2023, St. Brown went for an astonishing 1,515 yards in just 16 games.
Jared Goff is back with a huge contract extension. The supporting cast on offense and their offensive coordinator are also back. The Lions play in a dome, which is friendly to hitting these stats. Amon-Ra has already shown us what he’s capable of in three seasons. I fully expect him to get back to 1500 yards in 2024.
Derrick Henry Higher Than 10.5 Rushing Touchdowns
Similar to Saquon Barkley mentioned above, Henry has been brought in to do the heavy lifting around the goal line. Lamar Jackson is still going to get his, but when you get close and have a beast of a man like Derrick Henry to turn around and give the ball too, that’s what you do.
Henry showed last season that he still has plenty left in the tank. He played all 17 games for the Titans and found the end zone 12 times. Since 2018, Henry has only had one season where he didn’t go over 10.5 touchdowns: 2021, when he only played in eight games. However, in those eight games, Henry got 10 touchdowns. This Ravens offense is a productive one, and Henry will get plenty of goal-line attempts.
Joe Burrow Higher Than 28.5 Passing Touchdowns
This one is more about whether Joe Burrow will stay healthy than whether he can throw 29 passing touchdowns. In the two seasons when Burrow has played 16 games, he has thrown for 34 and 35 passing touchdowns, respectively.
In his rookie season and again last season, Burrow only played in 10 games, falling short of the total both times. Burrow suffered a season-ending ligament tear in November but should be ready to play in September. I’m all in on Burrow this season and think he’ll easily surpass this higher than.
