Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 4
William Contreras Higher than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs
If the season ended today, Contreras would be on a short loss of NL MVP candidates. He is hitting .341 with 5 home runs and 26 RBIs. Contreras has also been hitting second consistently in the Brewers lineup, meaning he will get at least 4 at bats. On Saturday, Contreras will be facing off against Jameson Taillon. Tallion has pitched great in his 3 starts this season, allowing just 3 earned runs. With all that being said, I’ll be riding with Contreras, who is 2-5 in his career against Tallion.
Dylan Moore Higher than 0.5 Total Bases
Moore hasn’t been great this season by any stretch of the imagination, but I really like him against the Astros on Saturday. On Friday, in Game 1 of a three-game set against the Astros, Moore homered for his second home run of the season. Moore also has good numbers against Astros starter Framber Valdez (6-20, with a 2B and 4 RBIs).
Valdez is making just his second start after coming off the Injured List with an elbow injury. In his last start, he allowed 2 runs over 5.0 innings pitched against the Rockies; not necessarily anything to write home about. I love Moore on Saturday!
Shohei Ohtani Higher than 9.5 Fantasy Points
My usual strategy for position player picks is to look at starting pitcher vs. batter career stats to see which batters are comfortable with which pitchers. Full disclosure: there really aren’t any other matchups I love today, but Shohei Ohtani is almost always in a good matchup. Ohtani has never faced off against Braves starter Bryce Elder, but in my estimations, it’s a great matchup for Ohtani. Elder does not have over powering stuff, where I would be concerned.
